Mingyuan He, Professor, Director of the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Green Chemistry and Chemical Processes (since 2004), School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, East China Normal University, Shanghai China. Vice Chairman of the Academic Committee, Research Institute of Petroleum Processing, Sinopec.
Professor Mingyuan He has been conducting his research in the field of catalysis and green chemistry. His work covers both fundamental research and technological innovation, with about 300 papers published and more than 200 Chinese or international patents granted.
A number of zeolite synthesis and modification methods have been invented, and several series of refining catalysts have been developed and applied commercially. One of his achievements was selected as one of the « Top Ten Scientific and Technological Achievements of the Nation » in 1996. He has also received numerous awards such as the Nation’s Invention Awards, the Nation’s Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, the Outstanding Chinese Patent Awards, the SINOPEC Invention Awards, etc. In 2001, Professor He received an award from the Ho Leung Ho Li Foundation, Hong Kong. In 2012, he was awarded « Catalysis Achievement Award of China » by the Chinese Chemical Society. In 2019, he was awarded « Zeolite Life Achievement Award » by Chinese Zeolite Society. In 2022, he was awarded the « Chemistry Contribution Award » by the Chinese Chemical Society.
Prof He was elected member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995. He was appointed as Principal Scientist for the State Key Basic Research Program in the field of Green Chemistry. In 2007, he was elected Vice President of the International Zeolite Association.
Since the 21st century, Prof. He has focused his scientific research on green chemistry. In addition to establishing a green chemistry laboratory in Shanghai, he proposed a novel concept of « Green Carbon Science » to achieve carbon neutrality based on two opposite and unified reactions – oxidation and reduction. The essence of Green Carbon Science is carbon balance and recycling.
In the aspect of collaboration with French scientists, Prof. He promoted the establishment of Joint Research Institute for Science and Society (JORISS) and Joint Graduate School between East China Normal University and Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon and conducted supervision work for students with Prof. Laurent Bonneviot. He jointly founded and co- chaired series of France-China Green Chemistry Conference since 2010 to 2022, either in France or in China. He was awarded “Chevalier des Palmes Académiques” by French Ministry of Education in 2012. He was bestowed the diploma of Doctor Honoris Causa of Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France, in 2016.
