
David Bernier is Molecular Designer and Science Fellow at Bayer, Lyon. David obtained an engineering degree from ESCOM (Cergy-Pontoise, France) and a Master of Biomolecules Chemistry from the University of Montpellier 2. In 2002 he started his PhD-studies in the field of natural products synthesis in the group of Prof. Dr. Reinhard Brückner at the University of Freiburg-im-Breisgau (Germany). In 2007, he joined the group of Prof. Simon Woodward at the University of Nottingham (UK) as EPSRC post-doctoral fellow working on synthesis and reactivity of enamine N-oxides and applications of supercritical CO2 in protecting group chemistry. He joined Bayer in 2008 as laboratory leader in Small Molecules R&D. He is mainly involved in hit & lead optimization to identify new active ingredients for crop protection.
Beside his core research activities, he coordinated several industry-academia collaborations and gave agrochemistry lectures in several French universities. He co-authored more than 80 patent applications and 20 publications.
