3ème Ecole Franco-Australienne (MEP3): « An Introduction to Nonlinear Optics for Bioimaging and More » (Rennes, 24-26 Septembre 2025)

This thematic school entitled « An Introduction to Nonlinear Optics for Bioimaging and More » constitutes the third in a series of thematic schools relating to molecular electronics and photonics. It is organized within the framework of our Franco-Australian International Research Project (IRP) MAITAI and partly supported by the various local sponsors listed below.

It is aimed at providing a conceptual basis in nonlinear optics to the School’s participants, in order for them to better understand the state of the art in two-photon fluorescence and second-harmonic generation (SHG), as well as to emphasize to the attendees the benefit of using nonlinear optics (NLO) to improve bio-imaging. In addition, the concepts to be imparted are also important in the fabrication of functional molecular assemblies designed for applications in other cutting-edge fields, such as (i) new photosensitizers for theranostics in the field of health and (ii) smart molecular materials for « all-optical » processing in the field of information storage and processing.

We stress here that the courses in English constitute, above all, an “initiation” to NLO and do not require any prerequisites apart from a Master-2 scientific level in science. The targeted audience constitutes primarily young researchers (doctoral students included). Courses are aimed at synthetic chemists who would like to familiarize themselves with the concepts of NLO. This training may also be of interest to physicists working in NLO and interested in the molecular structures that underlie the nonlinear optical properties. Some basic familiarity with molecular chemistry is, however, needed.

The registration fees have been minimized to ensure this School is accessible to most people. Note that these fees are only intended to cover the lunches (buffets) and coffee breaks. Participants are responsible for organising their other meals and their accomodation in Rennes. Note also that the maximum number of participants is limited to 30.

A poster session will be organized the first day of the School so that they can present their own research in order to stimulate discussions between all participants.
